Milestone hit comes six days later
An official scoring change has meant a different hit was the 1,000th of Starlin Castro’s major-league career than originally thought.
Castro originally reached the milestone April 9 at Detroit with a ball hit to right field that was scored a single at the time. However, the official scorer’s original decision was overturned as an error was charged against Tigers right fielder J.D. Martinez.
So Castro’s 1,000th career big-league hit turned out to be his single in the fourth inning Friday night against the Mariners at Yankee Stadium. Now trainer Steve Donohue has to mark up another ball.
